Oliver & Company - Disney Films Project

Mar 19 Oliver & Company - Disney Films Project

Katie Nelson
Disney, Disney Project

Oliver and Company is an adaptation of the Charles Dickens Oliver Twist story set in modern day New York and using animals as the main characters. It's an average feature for the Disney studio with nothing too notable about it other than having Billy Joel star as Dodger and provide one of the soundtrack songs.

This is an underappreciated film that often gets overlooked because it came out at a time when Disney was not producing it's finest work

When you review a big body of work like our Disney Films Project, you have to bear through some of the less than stellar offerings. It's a good exercise to watch both the good and the bad and boy, was this one bad!

I've been looking forward to The Rescuers coming up on our list as it is one of my childhood favorites. I was about 8 years old when it was released in theaters and it just captured my imagination.

The whole thing began with Walt seeking after stories, as he so often did. The idea of some old wood and a group of stuffed animals interested him more than many would believe, and he cottoned to taking the whole thing home.

It's been very well established here that we are big time LEGO fanatics and I don't think you can really claim to be a true fan if you aren't familiar with Nathan Sawaya's incredible work

In 2010, Tim Burton got it in his head to take his mental stylings to an old English tale, that of Alice in Wonderland. Disney had tried and failed first time round, as had many others, but that never stopped anyone before.

Moving along in our Disney Films Project list, we hit upon one of the bigger splits in our opinions. Most of the time, we are pretty close on our viewpoints, but this one definitely left us divided.

I secretly wanted a brass bed with removable knobs, and I certainly wanted to be able to control my own armor army! Although, in retrospect, I'm a little surprised that didn't scare me as a kid

This is one of those movies that Alex and I disagree on. I grew up with the Aristocats and it was one of my very favorites. To be fair, we didn't have VHS or DVD and we could only see the films when they came out in the theater every 7 years.

This is one of my childhood favorites and I still enjoy it as an adult. I never read Rudyard Kipling's books so I never worried about it being so unfaithful to the original works.

We decided to wait until the movie had been released on iTunes and DVD and give everyone about a month to see it before we wrote our post. It worked out perfectly because we watched it on May the 4th which has come to be known as Star Wars Day!

Happy Presidents Day from Abe. He's one of our favorite presidents and I think he's the only one who has officially been made into a LEGO minifig? 🎩
Tsuro has been one of our favorite games for a long time. It’s a beautifully designed game and we love the dragon artwork. It’s easy to learn but also takes some real strategy to play. We’ve played Tsuro many times before so it was fun that Dad decided to join in with us for a 3 player game. It was his first time, but he enjoyed it. We played 3 rounds and I won the first game and Alex won the other two, so Alex won the series.

This is a game we definitely recommend! 🐉
Alex and I take turns picking out games to play for our board game tour. He picked Villainous last time so it was my turn and I decided to go with something a little easier. We were still feeling the Disney vibe so I thought it would be fun to try Disney Codenames.
We had never played Codenames before the Christmas break when we tried out the Harry Potter version. That one was more complicated than this Disney edition. The nice thing about this game is that it can easily be tailored to just about any age. Fun little game!
We discovered Squishmallow plushies yesterday during a trip to Target and we are in love. 💕 They are made with the softest fabric I have ever felt and squeezing them feels like a nice hug. Fifi and Roxy joined our collection and I’m guessing that they will have more #squishmallowsquad friends soon. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
